late for the wedding

GENDER: cozy mystery
The older detectives don’t mind a little peace now and then, but after a long fight with nothing out of the ordinary, they’re itching for a little excitement.
No one could have imagined that it would come with such force.
A mysterious explosion has rocked the assisted living community, disrupting everyone’s lives.
Despite stern warnings from the authorities, one of the older detectives can’t help but get involved. This is his house, after all.
Herman, always eager to discover the truth, ignores the warnings and searches for answers. He is convinced that the explosion was a wake-up call to cover up something much more sinister. But the other elders aren’t as eager to get involved. They’re focused on Marcy and Lance’s upcoming wedding.
Without his usual sidekicks, can Herman track down the bomber and a missing veteran no one else remembers?
A loud crash erupted behind Herman, causing him to jump to his feet, put a hand over his racing heart, then turn to center as bits of wood, tiles, and drywall rained down on him and the other. grass. Gus lay facedown on the floor with his hands covering his head. Without thinking twice about the noise and its source, Herman ran as fast as his stiff knees would allow to his friend’s side. “Are you okay?” He gasped out the words as he crouched down next to his friend.
Gus raised his head, shaking off a speck of tiles, and asked. “Are we being bombed?”
Using his flat hand as a sun shield, Herman looked up at the sky. “No planes in sight.”
Not a word of reproach for his friend who automatically took the enemy fire. Complacency drove many soldiers to an early grave. The words spoken years ago by his drill sergeant returned. Observe the area and verify that there are no problems. Herman stared at the rambling, single-story building with a gabled roof.
Herman offered his hand to help Gus, who took it. They both stood up, hugging each other tightly, patting each other on the back. After a few seconds, they broke apart and then half-punched each other on the shoulder.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” Herman muttered, running a hand over his face. “I saw you on the ground, then I thought…” He paused and shook his head. “Oh, does not matter.”
Gus took a deep breath, then said, “Me too.”
