ABOUT THE BOOK
Qualification: eight in the lake
Serie: Mountain House
Author: Lin Stepp
Editor: mountain hill press
Release date: April 1, 2022
Gender: clean contemporary romance
Set in the charming historic town of Dandridge, Tennessee, on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains, Lin Stepp’s sweet and heartwarming story follows the unlikely romantic attraction between two characters who have nothing in common but undeniable enthusiasm.
Samantha King, a nationally known storm chaser with Weather First, is covering a hurricane hitting the Florida Panhandle when a billboard slams into her, launching her over a wall into the waves. Accidents call for recovery, and Samantha reluctantly heads to her Aunt Dixie’s home in Dandridge, Tennessee to rest. Her only advantage, aside from time with Dixie, is spending time with her sister Andrea’s children, fostered years ago by Ford and Laura McDaniel when Andrea and her husband were murdered. Samantha has spent little time with the children over the years due to her demanding work schedule, but she intends to get to know the children better while she is at Dandridge. Ford McDaniel, with a busy veterinary practice and co-owner of his family’s lakeside resort, often wonders how the hell he ended up with eight kids on his own. Yes, he and Laura agreed, as godparents to their best friends, Andrea and Adam Bradley, that if anything happened to them, they would raise their children, but who ever imagined that scenario would ever happen? Still, he and Laura seemed to be getting along just fine until Laura died, shattering his world and leaving him with eight small children to raise on his own. Now, Andrea’s celebrity sister Samantha is in town for a while and it’s hard for Ford not to resent her carefree life, or ignore his attraction to her, a relationship he clearly knows can’t lead anywhere. .

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I love the chance to read a clean romance and this one is lovely. Ford and Samantha’s story is more than a couple-centric romance. Ford is a widow with eight children! Four children are biological and the other four were adopted when the parents were killed. Ford is a very busy and extremely scheduled man who has his whole life figured out. Everything goes against the clock so that he can be a good father and earn a living. The fact that they live in a lakeside resort in Tennessee makes it that much better. Samantha is related to all four children, but she spends every moment as a storm chaser/meteorologist. When she is seriously injured, she recovers near the resort with her aunt Dixie and tries to be a part of the children’s lives. Samantha and Ford have instant fireworks, but they know that she will only be in town for the summer. Will there be any way for these two to meet?
The book is fun and easy to read. The story is uplifting and the characters share their faith, which is an important part of their lives and decisions. The serial killer subplot is interesting, but it doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the book. I love the interesting and educational ideas woven into the story. The author is an educator and you can feel it in her lovely writing.
